Scouting America, Longhouse Council Celebrates Grand Opening of New Service Center

Syracuse, NY — Scouting America, Longhouse Council proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new Service Center yesterday afternoon, marking an exciting milestone in the Council’s continued commitment to serving youth and families across Central and Northern New York.

The event was hosted by Scout Executive and CEO Ed Theetge, who welcomed an enthusiastic crowd that included local Scouts, members of the Longhouse Council Executive Board, community supporters, and government leaders. Among the dignitaries in attendance was New York State Assemblywoman Pam Hunter, a longtime advocate for youth programs and positive community development.

The new Service Center represents a significant investment in the future of Scouting in the region — providing improved workspace for staff, enhanced resources for volunteers, and a welcoming environment for families and visitors. The facility is a result of tremendous collaboration and generosity, including contributions of labor, materials, and financial support from numerous community partners.

“This new Service Center is more than just an office,” said Theetge during his remarks. “It is a hub for adventure, leadership, and service — a place where young people will be inspired to grow into thoughtful and engaged citizens. We are deeply grateful to every volunteer, donor, and partner who helped make this possible.”

The grand opening ceremony included a ribbon cutting and guided tours showcasing the modernized layout and dedicated spaces for program support, training, and outdoor adventure planning. Youth members from across the Council participated, proudly demonstrating the meaningful impact of Scouting on their lives and communities.

Longhouse Council delivers Scouting programs to more than 1,000 youth across 6 counties, helping young people develop character, leadership, and life skills through hands-on experiences, outdoor opportunities, and service to others.
