Eagle Scout David Montgomery Celebrates Touchdown with the Scout Sign

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery showcased his Scouting roots during Thursday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers, celebrating a touchdown by putting up the Scout Sign.

Montgomery is an Eagle Scout and was named an official Scouting Ambassador this October. “While Scouting took me outdoors and helped me discover a lifelong love for camping and fishing, it also taught me valuable lessons like developing a strategy and executing a plan, as well as how to be accountable for others than myself,” Montgomery said. “These skills helped me both in Scouting, and also taught me how to be a better athlete on the field.”

“I had to learn how to prioritize what was important to me,” he says. “Scouting was important to me. And it still is. When I completed my Eagle Scout project, it was like, now I can go play football. Football was important, but Scouting was far more important.”

Montgomery’s gesture showed off his status as a Scouting Ambassador to a national audience. He is one of several Eagle Scouts in the NFL this season. Scouting America is proud to count David and his fellow players as alumni.
