Scouting America Longhouse Council is excited to offer BALOO & IOLS training at Camp Woodland, May 1 – 3.
Longhouse Council’s Outdoor Training Team offers two courses: BALOO for Cub Scout leaders and IOLS for Scouts BSA Leaders. Come for a weekend of fun and learning from great instructors!
Training starts Friday evening with arrival between 6 and 7 PM at Camp Woodland, and wraps on Sunday morning. This is an action-packed weekend of learning, fellowship, and fun!
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
This one-and-a-half-day course is designed to introduce leaders to the Cub Scout outdoor program and to help them add a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online prerequisite component and an overnight, hands-on practical. BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
(As part of a two-part blended learning format, the online modules are the first step to becoming BALOO trained. The online training modules provide introductory and foundational information that will be built upon during the practical training conducted in the in-person, council-instructed course. The online component MUST be completed prior to the practical component.)
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
Through patrols, this hands-on course equips adult leaders with the practical outdoor skills needed to lead Scouts in the outdoors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics, this course is required for all direct-contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops to be considered “trained”.
