Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight hands on practical. BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry our a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) is a hands-on course that provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specific, this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts, BSA Troops in order to be considered “trained”.
The courses are happening simultaneously March 8-9 at Camp Woodland. Registration fee of $45 covers the course, lodging, and meals. The course staff have set cabins aside for indoor lodging if weather dictates. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get trained!

Starting a new calendar year is a good time to take stock of our leadership and what training we need for the year ahead. So below, we’re re-running a summary of the training needed for all Cub and Scouts, BSA leadership positions. The Outdoor Leader Training Weekend coming up is a great chance to knock some of this out!

**While BALOO is not required for any position, a BALOO-trained leader is needed at every overnight campout.
