Venture Basic Training Courses/Opportunities

 

Fast Start Training is designed to immediately orient new leaders to the Scouting role before their first meeting with youth. Fast Start Video Tapes and Viewer Guides for new Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venture Leaders are available at the J. Stanley Coyne Scout Service. This training is also available on line.

New Leaders Essentials is designed for all new volunteers and provides the basics of the Scouting programs, the age appropriateness of those programs, and our values and methods. Once taken, this course does not have to be repeated. This course is offered at the Council and District level and can also be scheduled for an individual unit by contacting your District Training Chairman. This training is also available on line. If Using a dial up connection, plan approximately 30 minutes for down load time. New Leaders Essentials is a Power Point presentation.

Venture Leader Specific Training is designed to present in-depth information for a new leader in their specific leadership position. Venture Leader Specific Training is a five-hour session for all Venture Crew Leaders and Committee Members.Training courses are conducted throughout the year on a Council/District basis or can be scheduled for individual units on demand by contacting your District Training Chairman.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is designed to provide basic outdoor skills used by the BSA. It is required training for Scoutmasters and Asst. Scoutmasters who wish to be fully trained. It is recommended training for Webelos Den Leaders, Venturing Leaders and other adults who will be camping with youth.

Youth Protection Guidelines - Every adult leader needs to take and understand the BSA plans and procedures for protecting our youth. This training is available on line. Recomended yearly.

Health & Safety Training - this course introduces the concept of the "sandwich principle" which emphasizes the importance of qualifies supervision and discipline. The course also features the BSA publication A Guide to Safe Scouting.

Woodbadge for the 21st Century is designed for leaders in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and District/Council Scouters. It focuses on leadership skills. To attend, leaders must be trained according to the standards of their specific Scouting position. The Woodbadge Course is scheduled over two weekends in August/September 2003 at Camp Woodland.

Monthly Roundtables - Each month all six districts hold Roundtables for all Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leaders. The Council also conducts quarterly Venture Roundtables. Every month, experienced Scouters share how to bring the BSA monthly themes from the Annual Program Helps to life. Check the Council Calendar for the date and location of your District Roundtable.
