A Scoutmaster Friend of mine told me of a large fire he once
witnessed. Several fire stations were called to put the fire out
but they couldn't close enough because of the intense heat. Everyone
watching was afraid the fire was going to spread to other buildings.
Then they turned to see a lone fire truck with sirens blazing,
driving fast down the street passing all the other fire trucks
and police barricades. If finally stopped near the fire where
all at once, the courageous fire fighters in the truck jumped
out and immediately started dousing the flames with water.
Inspired by these brave men, the other fire fighters jumped in
to help. Within the hour the fire was contained and the other
buildings were saved.
The mayor was so struck by these acts of courage that he asked
the fire chief of the brave crew what the city could do to honor
his brave
men. The fire chief said they would feel most honored with a new
set of brakes for their truck.
It's been pointed out that less than five percent of the people
in our nation are leaders. The rest are followers. We practice
leadership in our troop because so few people have the skills
to do it. Work hard to with your opportunities as a troop leader
because you never know when those skills will be required to lead
a group of people to safety, or to a better life, or even to put
out a fire.
Scouting is great because it prepares you for the unexpected,
it prepares you to lead when all others may have lost hope. Scouting
is great because it teaches you to be prepared.
Aim High Fly with the Eagles.
