Requirements

| Awarded to an individual for
unusual and and distinguished service in natural
resource conservation or environmental improvement.
Applications are reviewed four times a year by
a national committee. (Application) |

Merit
Badge Requirement Groups

1 Merit Badges: Energy, Environmental Science,
Fish and Wildlife Management, Forestry, Public
Health, Soil and Water Conservation |

| Group
2 Merit Badges: Geology, Insect Study,
Landscape Architecture, Mammal Study, Nature,
Oceanography, Atomic Energy, Plant Science, Bird
Study, Pulp and Paper, Fishing, Reptile and Amphibian
Study, Gardening, Weather |

For
the Hornaday Silver Medal, earn all merit badges
from group 1, plus any three others listed from
group 2.
If special circumstances make it impossible to
complete any of the required merit badges, the
Scout Executive may grant a waiver or allow a
substitution. An explanation of the waiver should
be appended to the application. |

For
the Hornaday Silver Medal, plan, lead, and carry
out four significant projects in natural resource
conservation or environmental improvement - one
each from four of the seven project categories
listed above.
There must be clear written evidence in your application
that you did indeed plan, lead, and carry out
four long-term, substantial projects in four different
conservation categories.
Past recipients have indicated that it takes at
least eighteen months to complete all the requirements.
