The Onondaga District Finance Committee works on a number of fundraising projects. These include Friends of Scouting (FOS), Popcorn Sales, Boypower Dinner, and Inkind gifts. From time to time, we may undertake other projects as needed. Each District has similar projects with goals assigned based on District size and history.
FRIENDS OF SCOUTING
FOS is divided into two key parts. The family Campaign is
our Pack / Troop level campaign through which we solicit donations from
our unit families. In addition to our unit presentations, we conduct follow
up phoning in an attempt to get 100% coverage of each unit. It is not
too late to schedule a presentation at your unit. Our goal is $25,000
from the family portion of FOS. It is important for units to make FOS
scheduling a key part of the unit's annual planning process. We encourage
scheduling early in the year so that follow up can take place.
The second portion of FOS is the community campaign. Our goal here is
$8,500. We conduct mailings to potential donors who are known to someone
in the District. A letter goes out over that person's signature with the
work being done by the Council office. This is a simple but effective
program and you can help. Do you know of 1 or more people whom we could
solicit? If so, then get that info to Nathan and the letter will go out.
It is as simple as that. Imagine what we could accomplish if this solicitation
list were to grow each year. We can make this a growing part of our FOS
campaign.
POPCORN SALES
The 2010 Campaign is about to get under way. Our goal is not yet set, but if it is approximately $200,000 of sales, then the units will profit around $70,000. This is a great chance to help your unit while you help Council. Our sales have been growing so don't miss out on this revenue source for your Pack or Troop.
BOYPOWER DINNER
This year on Wednesday, May 5th our dinner took place at the OnCenter. Our speaker was Syracuse University's own Bob Costas and our Honorees were Juli and Jim Boeheim. The event lived up to its promise to be the best ever. Our goal was to raise $25,000 and we hit $25,100. Congratulations and thanks for the help.
In addition to these campaigns, we look for in-kind donations of materials or special one time projects. Frequently in the Scouter Newsletter, needed items will be mentioned. There are always many ways for someone to donate if they are so inclined.
Thanks to all of you who help us to financially support our Scouting
program. We cannot do it without you.
