William Hillcourt Scout Museum and Carson Buck Memorial Library
Located at Camp Woodland
The
William Hillcourt Scout Museum and Carson Buck Memorial
Library is proud to be part of the effort to keep the traditions
of Scouting alive through the preservation and display of
scouting memorabilia and artifacts. In addition to display,
many of the historical documents are available for research.
The museum has something for everyone!
The area in this picture displays some of the documents, patches, and posters from the original Syracuse Council which, through mergers, has become the Hiawatha Seaway Council. Sometimes history can be fun and interesting - often the facts of an organizations history can be put in a historical timeline that is easy to read.
Uniforms,
books, OA sashes, patches, mugs, and other memorabilia all
tell the story of Scouting through the years. Through these
object it often becomes easier to see the advance of
technologies as well as helping understand how the Scouting
program evolved to address the needs of boys in all segments
of society.
At
the museum and library you can research much of the history
of the BSA as well as dig out
some biographical information on some of the giants of scouting
like Green
Bar Bill, Daniel
Carter Beard, and Ernest
Thompson Seton or the founder of the entire movement,
Lord Baden-Powell.
If you are at Camp Woodland over
the weekend you may have the opportunity to tour the museum
and touch our history. If you want to arrange a special
tour, you'll need to talk to one of the museum directors.
You can get in touch with one of them through the council
office 1-315-463-0201. There is a small trading post which
helps fund the cost of operation. Please remember to sign
our guest book.
If you wish to help the museum we have a patch that we sell
through our Trading Post that we
treat as a donation.
